People across the world create objects to remember those they have loved, admired and lost: to keep their memories alive, to immortalise them. From personal tokens to grand public monuments, such objects are symbols of grief, a celebration of lives lived, and they shape our environment.

Immortalised, Historic England’s immersive exhibition at the Truman Brewery in London, explores ephemeral monuments which hold the key to our memorial past and future. Working closely with Curious Space and Sophie Shaw, we created a memorable experience that would change the way the public view memorials and understand why these should be protected.
Encouraging the public to consider how and what we memorialise today.
We wanted to create a space where all the voices from the street are represented. The graphic language had to be strong and revolutionary. It had to look as real as possible, as if it came directly from the people.
For this, we were inspired by demonstration placards, guerrilla actions and street flyposting. By using these familiar elements inside the exhibition space, we highlighted the importance of each subject, and help visitors feel like they were in an open public space.
We pushed ourselves to approach the project in a very unusual way and come up with clever and affordable solutions.
We had the chance to learn more about low cost production techniques and materials such as hand painting type, spraying giant stencils, gluing wallpaper, printing risographs and applying vinyl on a range of various materials and surfaces, like wood, concrete and fabric.
